(by Private Notice) asked the President of the Board of Trade whether he has any statement to make with regard to the explosion at the British Oxygen Company's works at Jarrow?

I have been asked to reply. The circumstances of this accident are at present under investigation by the Chief Inspector of Explosives. I am glad to say that, according to the information so far received, there appear to have been no serious casualties. I am not at present in a position to make any further statement in the matter.
