HC Deb 17 February 1938 vol 331 cc2050-1
35. Mr. Silverman

asked the Minister of Labour whether he can give any information on the decision of the governing body of the International Labour Office to set up an inquiry into the measures necessary to prosperity and social justice in the textile trades; and whether His Majesty's Government propose to be represented on this inquiry?

Mr. E. Brown

I would refer the hon. Member to my reply to the hon. Member for Farnworth (Mr. Tomlinson) on 10th February, of which I am sending him a copy.

Mr. Silverman

In view of the conditions of many factory workers, will the Minister reverse the somewhat inactive policy he has adopted at the International Labour Office with regard to the improvement of conditions by international action?

Mr. Brown

The hon. Member is under a complete misapprehension in this matter. This inquiry was set up under a proposal by His Majesty's Government and we are co-operating fully.
