Mr. Parker asked the Home Secretary what were the circumstances in which Mr. Briggs was recently dismissed from the Aliens Department of the Home Office; in the case of how many aliens is he known to have abused his official position; whether legal proceedings are being taken against him; and whether the Department is prepared to pay compensation for the abuse by its servant of his official position?

Sir S. Hoare: I am informed that Mr. Briggs has been charged with a criminal offence, and has been remanded on bail
