HC Deb 16 February 1938 vol 331 c1888
74. Mr. Grant-Ferris

asked the Minister of Transport whether he proposes to avail himself of the powers given to him by the Road Traffic Act, 1937, to extend the period of currency of carriers' licences?

Mr. Burgin

Yes, Sir. I referred this question to the Transport Advisory Council, and am about to publish their report, which recommends an increase of the periods to five years for "A" and "C" licences and to two years for "B" licences, provided that the observance of the conditions of licences be upheld by the strongest possible measures, including, after fair warning, suspension and revocation of licences. I have accepted their recommendations, and shall make the necessary regulations with as little delay as possible.

Mr. Robert Gibson

Will these extensions apply to current licences, or only after new applications?

Mr. Burgin

I think that perhaps the hon. and learned Member might wait until I have made the regulations.
