HC Deb 07 February 1938 vol 331 cc666-7
54. Sir Percy Hurd

asked the Minister of Agriculture whether, in view of the recent trend of bacon output, the forthcoming proposals for rationalising the industry will provide for the expansion of home production in Wiltshire and other suitable areas on an efficient basis?

Mr. W. S. Morrison

I would refer my hon. Friend to the reply I gave on 1st February to my hon. Friend the Member for Thirsk and Malton (Mr. Turton).

Sir P. Hurd

Can the right hon. Gentleman say whether in that reply an assurance is given of the character asked for in the present question?

Mr. Morrison

The reply says that progress has been made with discussions of the matter, but that I am not yet in a position to make a statement on the subject.

Sir P. Hurd

May I take it that the right hon. Gentleman realises the importance of this aspect of the matter?

Mr. Morrison

Certainly. I am as anxious to make a statement on the subject as any hon. Member can possibly be to hear it.
