HC Deb 07 February 1938 vol 331 c670
49. Mr. Lyons

asked the Prime Minister whether it is his intention to make an early statement on the progress of the rearmament programme?

The Prime Minister

No doubt the House will desire to have such a statement, and the most convenient opportunity would arise during a Debate on Defence as a whole.

Mr. Alexander

Are the Government contemplating a substantial alteration in the armaments programme announced last year, and, if so, will the Prime Minister consider circulating a White Paper?

The Prime Minister

The question on the Order Paper is whether I will make an early statement on the progress of the rearmament programme.

Mr. Lawson

Will the Prime Minister give the House any real information? The Minister for the Co-ordination of Defence never gives the House any information.

Mr. Churchill

Can the Prime Minister say when he thinks a Debate on the general topic of Defence is likely to be open to the House?

The Prime Minister

I suppose it will be when the Estimates are out.
