HC Deb 03 February 1938 vol 331 c379
64. Mr. W. Whiteley

asked the Minister of Health the area and the price of the land recently acquired by the Walsall Town Council on the Sutton Road side of the town for cemetery and pleasure ground purposes; whether the purchase has been effected of more than 73 acres of the Hay Head Farm and at what price; and what has been the assessment of this and the other land mentioned for purposes of local taxation?

The Minister of Health (Sir Kingsley Wood)

The area of the land in question is approximately 182 acres, and the price paid was £13,315. This figure included the sum of £5,250 paid for 73½ acres comprising Hay Head Farm. Apart from three houses with a total net annual value of £37, the land was agricultural, and, therefore, derated.

65. Mr. Whiteley

asked the Minister of Health whether the Southampton Corporation has completed the negotiation for the purchase of Netley Castle and grounds and foreshore; whether a settlement has been arrived at; what price is being paid for this property; and what is its area and net rateable value?

Sir K. Wood

I have received an application from the Middlesex County Council for my consent to the raising by the county council of a loan for the purchase of the property known as Netley Castle, Southampton, for the purposes of a convalescent home. I understand that the price provisionally agreed by the parties is £16,500. The area of the property is stated to be approximately 24 acres, and the net rateable value £344. I am waiting certain further particulars before giving a decision on the application.
