HC Deb 01 February 1938 vol 331 cc18-9
43. Mr. T. Williams

asked the Under-Secretary of State for India whether he has any statement to make regarding the position of affairs in India?

The Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster (Earl Winterton)

I have been asked to reply; and perhaps it might be to the general convenience of the House if I stated that during the temporary absence of the Under-Secretary I shall be representing the Secretary of State and the India Office in this House. No, Sir; there is no general statement I could appropriately make within the limits of a Parliamentary answer.
