HC Deb 22 December 1938 vol 342 c3071
32. Mr. H. G. Williams

asked the Minister of Health the nature of the food-testing now being undertaken by the National Food Test Board on behalf of his Department?

Mr. Elliot

I have no information as to the nature of the food-testing undertaken by this body. It is entirely unofficial and any tests which it may be making are certainly not undertaken on behalf of my Department.

Mr. Williams

Is my right hon. Friend aware that this board is carried on from an accommodation address in Holborn and that it is issuing circulars which appear to be almost of a blackmailing nature, and in the interests of the general community and the health of the community will he make further inquiries into its activities, which appear to be most undesirable?

Mr. Elliot

I do not think it comes within my province to make further inquiries. It is an entirely unofficial body, and it is for others to take such steps.
