HC Deb 21 December 1938 vol 342 c2876
50. Mr. Sorensen

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies whether he is aware that whilst last year mining companies in Northern Nigeria distributed bonuses to their European staff, the native miners are still suffering from wage-cuts and poor leave conditions; and whether, in view of the dissatisfaction prevailing among native miners, he proposes to take or advise any action likely to appease them and to diminish the inequitable discrimination between white and black workers?

Mr. M. MacDonald

I have no detailed information on this matter apart from a reference which appeared in the Press: and I am asking the Governor for a report.
