HC Deb 21 December 1938 vol 342 c2852
8. Mr. Mander

asked the Prime Minister whether in view of the statement by the French Foreign Minister, that all the forces of France, land, sea and air, would be immediately and spontaneously used in the defence of Great Britain in the event of unprovoked aggression against us, he is prepared to make a similar and reciprocal statement with regard to British support of France?

The Prime Minister (Mr. Chamberlain)

The position has been made clear in recent public statements, and I would refer the hon. Member in particular to the statement which I made on Anglo-French relations in the course of the Debate on 19th December.

Mr. Mander

Cannot we give the same generous and unequivocal assurances to France, that she has given to us?

The Prime Minister

The French Government is quite satisfied.
