HC Deb 15 December 1938 vol 342 c2143
1. Mr. Simpson

asked the Minister of Labour whether he is aware of the diversion of the London and North Eastern Railway Company's coach-building works from Dukinfield; and whether, in view of the already depressed state of industry locally, he will consult with the company with a view to retaining or extending such employment for Dukinfield?

The Minister of Labour (Mr. Ernest Brown)

I would refer the hon. Member to the reply given by my right hon. Friend the Minister of Transport to the hon. Member for Stalybridge and Hyde (Mr. Trevor Cox) on 12th December of which I am sending him a copy.

Mr. Simpson

Will the Minister endeavour to secure some substitute work for these men in view of the railway work being diverted?

Mr. Brown

If the hon. Member will look at the answer of which I am sending him a copy, he will see that my right hon. Friend is in communication with the railway company?
