HC Deb 15 December 1938 vol 342 cc2166-7
50. Mr. G. Griffiths

asked the Minister of Health the number of contributory and old age pensioners who are receiving public assistance in the West Riding of Yorkshire?

Mr. Elliot

On 1st January, 1938, the latest date for which figures are available, there were in receipt of poor relief in the administrative county of the West Riding of Yorkshire, together with the 10 associated county boroughs, 6,851 widow pensioners and 22,789 old age pensioners, including those persons between 65 and 70 years of age receiving old age pensions under the Contributory Pensions Acts.

Mr. Leach

Do these figures include all the county boroughs inside the West Riding?

Mr. Elliot

They include the county boroughs.

Mr. G. Griffiths

Does not this show the necessity for giving additional pensions?
