HC Deb 15 December 1938 vol 342 c2180
76. Mr. Henderson Stewart

asked the Lord Privy Seal whether he has prepared any plans to enable Members of Parliament to participate effectively in the national voluntary service campaign to be launched in the new year?

The Lord Privy Seal (Sir John Anderson)

I hope that hon. Members will give all the assistance in their power to the local National Service Committees in such arrangements as they may make, through public meetings and otherwise, to stimulate voluntary recruitment in their several localities for the various national services. The support which hon. Members will be able to give in this way will constitute a most important factor in the success of the campaign.

Mr. Rhys Davies

Will the right hon. Gentleman see to it that when this campaign is conducted employers as employers shall not be entitled to bring economic pressure upon their workpeople to assist against their will?

Sir J. Anderson

That is a different question altogether.

Mr. Leach

Will the right hon. Gentleman undertake that this shall not be the preliminary to a new flood of O.B.Es.?
