HC Deb 15 December 1938 vol 342 cc2159-60
40. Mr. Hannah

asked the Minister of Health whether he is aware that the town council of Bilston is unanimous in desiring to preserve their own isolation hospital and willing to make any necessary improvements; and will he give an assurance that Bilston shall not be compelled against its will to be included for hospital purposes in a larger scheme?

Mr. Elliot

I am aware of the council's views in this matter, which has been the subject of a public local inquiry. After considering the report of the inquiry I formed the opinion, as my hon. Friend is aware, that the inclusion of Bilston in a united district for the purposes of isolation hospital accommodation would be in the best interests of the public health. I have made a Provisional Order accordingly. The Bill to confirm this Order is now before the House.

Mr. Hannah

In view of the public interest taken in this question, will the right hon. Gentleman be willing to receive a deputation from the corporation of Bilston?

Mr. Elliot

I should have to receive counter-evidence from other persons if I did. I am willing to consult the hon. Member on the matter.
