HC Deb 15 December 1938 vol 342 c2178
72. Mr. Day

asked the Home Secretary whether, in view of the fact that it is impossible for patients confined to a hospital to register their votes, despite the fact that they are on the register, he will consider introducing legislation which will give these persons an opportunity of registering their votes?

Sir S. Hoare

The proposal that sick persons should be allowed to vote otherwise than at a polling station raises serious practical difficulties, but it has been noted for consideration when opportunity arises.

Mr. Day

Will the right hon. Gentleman consider introducing legislation to allow these persons to count as absent voters?
