HC Deb 12 December 1938 vol 342 c1580
8. Mr. Leach

asked the Prime Minister what portions of the Versailles Treaty he regards as still existing and binding upon the signatories; and whether he will consider denouncing the Treaty on behalf of this country?

Mr. Butler

The matters raised in the first part of the question are too extensive to be suitable for treatment by way of question and answer. The answer to the second part is in the negative.

Mr. Leach

Is it not in the interests of the policy of appeasement to sacrifice the last remaining remnants of this wretched Treaty?

Mr. Butler

I said that the answer to the last part of the question was in the negative.
