HC Deb 12 December 1938 vol 342 c1597
53. Mr. Hepworth

asked the Minister of Agriculture whether he has considered representations from the British Wool Federation that the practice of colouring sheep should be abolished; and what is the view of his Department on the subject?

Mr. W. S. Morrison

Representations have been received by the Department from the British Wool Federation asking for action leading to the prohibition of the use of indelible colouring matter on sheep. I have no power to take such action, but warning notices have been issued by my Department from time to time against the use by farmers of dips containing harmful colouring matter and manufacturers of dips have been asked to consult the wishes of the wool industry when selecting a colour for incorporation in bloom dips.

Lieut.-Commander Fletcher

Will the right hon. Gentleman convey these views to his National Liberal and National Labour friends?
