HC Deb 12 December 1938 vol 342 c1608
68. Mr. Duncan

asked the Postmaster-General on what date the Park Telephone Exchange was converted from manual to automatic working; and whether the conversion took place without interruption or inconvenience to the public?

Major Tryon

The Park Telephone Exchange was converted to automatic working at 2 p.m. on Saturday, 3rd December. Apart from a few minor troubles, which must be expected in a transfer of this magnitude, the conversion was quite satisfactory.

Mr. Duncan

Will my right hon. Friend give an opportunity to subscribers to visit the exchange and see the working?

Major Tryon

Yes, Sir. If the subscribers realised that 4,447 lines were transferred in seven minutes, they would realise that there must be some delay at the moment. They would be most welcome to see the exchange.
