HC Deb 12 December 1938 vol 342 c1607
66. Mr. Robert Gibson

asked the Postmaster-General what was the cost of the site for the new automatic telephone exchange in Market Street, Greenock; what is the estimated cost of the building; and the date for the commencement of building operations?

The Postmaster-General (Major Tryon)

It is not usual to publish figures of this kind. As a matter of fact, the building is barely in the tender stage, and it would, therefore, be obviously undesirable to give any indication of the estimated cost. The building is expected to be begun toward the end of next year.

Mr. Gibson

In view of the great deal of time that has been lost, will the right hon. Gentleman do his best to expedite the erection of the exchange?

Major Tryon

I will bear that suggestion in mind.
