HC Deb 12 December 1938 vol 342 c1593
47. Sir Assheton-Pownall

asked the Prime Minister whether he can now state the decision of the Government with regard to the suggested scheme for pensions for Members of Parliament involving no charge upon the taxpayers?

The Prime Minister

Yes, Sir. The Government hope to afford an opportunity before the Christmas Recess for a Debate on the proposed scheme for pensions for Members of Parliament without imposing any additional charge upon the taxpayer. I would invite my hon. and gallant Friend and those associated with him to Table a Motion for this purpose. I may add that the question will be left to a free vote of the House.
