HC Deb 08 December 1938 vol 342 c1338
16. Mr. A. Jenkins

asked the Minister of Labour what steps are taken to ensure that wages at trade union rates are paid to the workpeople in industries established in the special areas with the aid of public finance?

Mr. E. Brown

I would refer the hon. Member to the answer which I gave to the hon. Member for Linlithgow (Mr. Mathers) on 1st December, of which I am sending him a copy.

Mr. Jenkins

Does not the Minister think it would be better to ensure that reasonable wages are paid in these factories, particularly in view of the fact that the great majority of the employers are good employers and that the position is being prejudiced by the conditions at a few factories only?

Mr. Brown

If the hon. Member will look at that answer he will find several supplementaries on the point, and perhaps he will consider the statements there.
