HC Deb 07 December 1938 vol 342 c1180
78. Mr. Price

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies what steps have been taken in consequence of a report of the Conference of Colonial Directors of Agriculture, held recently in London; and whether the conclusion of Lord Hailey's survey, including those of soil erosion, were considered by them?

Mr. M. MacDonald

I have forwarded copies of the report of the Conference of Colonial Directors of Agriculture to the officers administering the Governments of the various Colonial dependencies, commending to their attention the conclusions and recommendations of the Conference and suggesting that the report should be made available to all officers who are concerned with developmental work. Lord Hailey's African survey was not published when the Conference was held last July; his conclusions, therefore, were not available for consideration by the Conference.

Mr. Price

Was the question of soil erosion considered?

Mr. MacDonald

I should like notice of that question. I think it must have come up in some form or other.
