§ 73. Mr. Manderasked the Postmaster-General whether he will consider the advisability of appealing this year to the public to post their Christmas greetings early on the understanding that they will be delivered on Christmas Day and not before, in view of the reluctance now existing amongst the public to have such greetings delivered before Christmas?
§ The Assistant Postmaster-General (Sir Walter Womersley)I propose to invite the public to assist the Post Office by posting their Christmas parcels and letters early in Christmas week as in previous years, but, in view of the very large increase in the number of letters and parcels posted during the Christmas period, I am afraid that it is impracticable for the Post Office to arrange for greetings posted early to be held over for delivery on Christmas Day. A number of experiments of this kind were made some years ago, but were not successful.
