HC Deb 05 December 1938 vol 342 cc865-6
43. Mr. Adamson

asked the Minister of Agriculture what progress has been made with the registration schemes under the Sea Fish Industry Act?

Mr. W. S. Morrison

As the reply contains a number of figures, I propose, with the hon. Member's permission, to circulate it in the OFFICIAL REPORT.

Following is the reply:

All home producers of white fish were required to register with the White Fish Commission by 30th September last, and I am informed that the Commission's register at present contains the names of nearly 4,800 producers, owning in all some 6,700 fishing-boats. Persons selling white fish by wholesale, fishmongers, fish-friers and curers, salters, driers, smokers and canners of white fish, are required to register with the Commission before the 1st January next. The numbers of applications for registration received up to, and including, 30th November were: wholesalers, 1,402; fishmongers, 5,749; fish-friers, 7,931; curers, salters, driers, smokers and canners, 152; making a total of 15,234.
