HC Deb 05 December 1938 vol 342 cc873-4
Mr. Attlee

May I ask the Prime Minister whether he can now state on what Motion the Debate to-morrow on National Service will be founded?

The Prime Minister

Yes, Sir, the Government propose to table the following Motion for discussion to-morrow: That this House approves the proposals of His Majesty's Government for National Voluntary Service.

Mr. Attlee

Is it proposed that the House should come to a decision tomorrow, or will there be a more extended Debate?

The Prime Minister

I think it would meet the general convenience in the House if another opportunity were given at some later stage for discussion on National Voluntary Service. I am quite prepared to give another day. In these circumstances there will be no need to ask the House to take a decision to-morrow night, and I suggest that the Government's Motion should be withdrawn at the end of the Debate.
