HC Deb 28 April 1938 vol 335 c284
16. Mr. Dingle Foot

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he has now considered the recent decision of the Divisional Court in the case of Lewis v. Cattle; and whether it is his intention to introduce legislation amending the Official Secrets Acts?

The Secretary of State for the Home Department (Sir Samuel Hoare)

I am not yet in a position to add anything to the answer which I gave to the hon. Member on 11th April.

Mr. Foot

If I put down a question in a fortnight's time will the right hon. Gentleman then be in a position to give me an answer?

Sir S. Hoare

I should hope to be able to give an answer by that time.

Mr. Foot

In considering this matter will the right hon. Gentleman bear in mind the grave alarm which has been expressed by organisations representing the journalistic profession regarding the present state of the law?

Sir S. Hoare

Certainly; I will take account of all the relevant factors.
