HC Deb 28 April 1938 vol 335 c301
56. Sir A. Wilson

asked the Financial Secretary to the Treasury whether he will sanction the publication of the evidence laid before the committee on the position of unmarried women under the Contributory Pensions Acts?

The Financial Secretary to the Treasury (Lieut.-Colonel Colville)

The publication of the evidence laid before this committee is in the first place a question for the consideration of the chairman, who has not as yet made any recommendation on the subject.

Sir A. Wilson

Will my right hon. and gallant Friend convey to the chairman the importance of the evidence being before us when we have to consider the report?

Lieut.-Colonel Colville

I will see that the chairman is aware of the hon. Gentleman's views.

Mr. Lyons

Will my right hon. Friend consider, in connection with the setting up of any such departmental committees, giving instructions that the evidence should be made available for Members of this House to see?

Lieut.-Colonel Colville

I took the opportunity on a recent occasion of explaining the position with regard to the publication of evidence. Perhaps the hon. and learned Gentleman will read what I said.
