HC Deb 26 April 1938 vol 335 c16
32. Sir G. Mitcheson

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many Austrians have been given permits to reside in this country since the German occupation of Austria?

The Secretary of State for the Home Department (Sir Samuel Hoare)

From 13th March to 24th April, 1,671 persons holding Austrian passports were given leave to land for varying periods. A number of these have since left the country, and I cannot say how many of those who arrived since 13th March may wish to settle here.
