HC Deb 11 April 1938 vol 334 c758
57. Mr. de Rothschild

asked the Home Secretary what are the scales of pensions payable to widows and dependants of the Metropolitan Police Force who die while serving in the force or after retirement?

Sir S. Hoare

I would refer the hon. Member to Part II of the First Schedule to the Police Pensions Act, 1921. The actual rates vary according to circumstances, including the rank of the deceased, the length of his service, his annual pay at the date of death or retirement, and the cause of death: for example, the pension payable to the widow of a constable varies from a minimum of £30 a year up to £53 14S. if her husband is killed in the first year of his service while engaged on duty involving special risks, £65 in the same circumstances after five years' service, and so on up to a maximum of £82 6s. 8d., with allowances in addition, to any children under the age of 16.
