HC Deb 04 April 1938 vol 334 c30
65. Mr. Day

asked the Minister of Transport whether, in view of the great increase in motor traffic on the roads since the passing of the Road Transport Lighting Act, 1927, he will consider introducing amending legislation in order that cyclists shall carry a properly lighted red lamp at the rear of their bicycles for the protection of all road users?

The Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Transport (Captain Austin Hudson)

I would refer the hon. Member to the answer which my right hon. Friend gave to a similar question by the hon. Member for West Leyton (Mr. Sorensen) on 30th March, of which I am sending him a copy.

Mr. Day

Is any standard of illumination required?

Captain Hudson

That is a separate question altogether.
