HC Deb 04 April 1938 vol 334 c24
47. Mr. Thorne

asked the Postmaster-General whether he can give any information in connection with postal orders and stamps stolen from the sub-post office at Commercial Road, E., on Wednesday night, 30th March; and, in particular, what was the value of the orders and stamps?

Major Tryon

The total amount of the loss due to the burglary on 30th March at the Limehouse, near Church, sub-office is £667. Of this amount, £184 is in respect of postal orders, £187 in respect of postage stamps, and £296 in respect of other stamps, such as National Health and Unemployment Insurance stamps. So far no arrest has been made.

Mr. Thorne

Were the stamps and postal orders put into the same safe?

Major Tryon

I must ask the hon. Gentleman to await the result of the inquiry which is being made.

Mr. Thorne

Surely the right hon. and gallant Gentleman ought to know?

Major Tryon

If the hon. Member wants that information I shall be pleased to give it to him if he will put a question down.
