HC Deb 04 April 1938 vol 334 c31
Mr. R. Gibson

(forMr. Bellenger) asked the Postmaster-General whether his attention has been called to a statement by counsel and the Lord Chief Justice in the action Williams versus Brady and others regarding the use of the British Broadcasting Corporation on 4th November, 1936, for the spreading of false statements for the purpose of fraud; and what steps the British Broadcasting Corporation is taking to prevent this happening in future?

Major Tryon

I understand that the news item referred to in the action mentioned was received by the Corporation from one of the principal news agencies and broadcast in the normal course. The Corporation is of necessity dependent on these agencies for the accuracy of the news which they supply.
