§ 40. Mr. Grovesasked the Home Secretary whether he is aware that the steps recently taken by the police to keep the Broadway and Grove, Stratford, free from parked vehicles have resulted in the practice of using both sides of the carriage way of Great Eastern Road, Stratford, for the same purpose, so that the road is rendered almost unavailable for traffic; and whether, as the county borough of West Ham, in order to assist the police authorities to keep the highways free for moving traffic, has constructed in the immediate vicinity adequate parking facilities for any type of vehicles, he will arrange with the Commissioner of Police for special attention to be given to the matter in this area and prevent the present practice of using any portion of a side road which leads to the major road?
§ Sir S. HoareThe Commissioner of Police informs me that the main difficulty in Great Eastern Road arises not from the steps taken by the police as regards waiting vehicles in the Broadway and the Grove, but from the loading and unloading of vehicles in that road. The municipal park referred to has been of great assistance in relieving the neighbouring streets, and the police are doing their best to keep Great Eastern Road and other streets as free as possible from obstruction.
