HC Deb 28 October 1937 vol 328 c244
52. Mr. Hannah

asked the Minister of Health whether any steps are being taken to preserve threatened cottages at Newlyn?

Sir K. Wood

I have at present under consideration a report made by one of my inspectors following a local inquiry which I directed on the matter to which my hon. Friend refers. I hope to be able to give my decision in the near future.

Mr. Beechman

Will my right hon. Friend, before he comes to a decision as to how to improve housing conditions at Newlyn, which are generally agreed to be bad, satisfy himself that he has considered every possible means of effecting this improvement without involving poor owners of cottages in hardship or impairing the celebrated beauty of Newlyn, so that it may never appear as unromantic as Bilston?
