HC Deb 28 October 1937 vol 328 c222
8. Mr. Jenkins

asked the Minister of Labour whether he is aware that, in connection with the Government works near Usk, Monmouthshire, the labour employed is not engaged through the employment exchange; and that, as the works develop, labour can be brought in from elsewhere, even though there are approximately 5,000 wholly unemployed persons within reasonable travelling distance of the works; and will he take immediate steps to see that each contract contains a provision for the employment of local labour?

Mr. E. Brown

I am having inquiries made and will communicate with the hon. Member as soon as possible.

Mr. G. Hall

Has a site been acquired?

Mr. Brown

I understand a site has been fixed, but I will make inquiries about it. I am not sure that work is yet started.
