HC Deb 28 October 1937 vol 328 cc243-4
51. Mr. Errington

asked the Minister of Health when work will be started on the Bootle, Rimrose Brook, drainage scheme; when it is anticipated that the work thereon will be completed; how much it is estimated will be the total cost; and whether, when completed, it is expected to stop entirely the present flooding of certain streets in Bootle?

The Minister of Health (Sir Kingsley Wood)

This scheme has not yet been submitted in detail for my approval, and I am not, therefore, in a position to reply to the first two parts of the question. I am informed that it will be ready for submission early in January, when a public inquiry will be held. The scheme is estimated to cost £267,000, and one of its objects is to prevent flooding in Bootle.

Mr. Errington

Can the right hon. Gentleman tell me whether there is any prospect of his using his influence to accelerate this very important matter?

Sir K. Wood

I am hoping that I shall receive the scheme very soon. It is only fair to say that the scheme is being prepared on behalf of a joint committee of six local authorities, and, therefore, I suppose, there are many complications.
