HC Deb 21 October 1937 vol 327 c3
22. Mr. Thurtle

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many polls have taken place on the question of the opening of cinemas on Sunday since the Sunday Entertainments Act came into operation; and in how many cases there has been a majority in favour of Sunday opening?

The Under-Secretary of State for the Home Department (Mr. Geoffrey Lloyd)

The number of cases in which a poll under the Sunday Entertainments Act has resulted in favour of the opening of cinemas on Sunday is 55. The information asked for in the first part of the question is not available as my right hon. Friend is not informed of polls where there is a majority opposed to Sunday opening.
