75. Mr. Sorensen

asked the Minister of Health whether he has taken, or will take, steps to recommend to county councils and urban local authorities the consideration and adoption of green belt proposals similar to those initiated by the London County Council?

Mr. Bernays

Many of the larger local authorities are already examining the possibility of reserving land as green belts or regional open spaces in connection with the preparation of their planning schemes. My right hon. Friend is considering whether there is anything further he can do to accelerate the adoption of proposals.

Mr. Sorensen

Will the hon. Gentleman submit to his superior the desirability of recommending to the various authorities that this green belt proposal should be instituted wherever necessary?
