6. Mr. De la Bèreasked the Secretary of State for War whether, in view of the increased responsibility placed on the Territorial officers to-day, he will consider additional facilities for an increase in the training grant which would enable these officers to have longer and more frequent attachment to Regular units?
§ Mr. Hore-BelishaI am not aware that Territorial Army officers who are desirous of being attached to Regular units have been refused such attachment owing to 1005 lack of money in the training grant. There has been a considerabe increase in the training grant this year, and the possibility of a further increase will be considered in connection with next year's Estimates.
Mr. De la BèreIs my right hon. Friend aware that some officers, at any rate, have been discouraged, and is it not very desirable that they should be as long as possible with the Regular units, so as to be able to make the Territorial Force more efficient?
§ Mr. Hore-BelishaIt may be, although I am not aware of it, that certain officers have been discouraged, but the explanation might also be that they were not selected by the General Officer Commanding as being suitable for training. If, however, there are any Territorial officers whose training has in any way been handicapped, and my hon. Friend will give me particulars, I shall be most happy to do everything I can.
