HC Deb 22 November 1937 vol 329 c838
29. Mr. Day

asked the Secretary to the Overseas Trade Department whether he has any statement to make to the House regarding the results achieved by the British section of the Paris Exhibition and the total cost to date?

The Parliamentary Secretary to the Board of Trade (Captain Euan Wallace)

I have been asked to reply. It is not possible to make any definite estimate of the results of Government participation in an international exhibition because a considerable part of the benefits derived from a successful national exhibit are not realized immediately and cannot be computed in pounds, shillings and pence. I understand, however, that several million persons have visited the United Kingdom Pavilion since the opening of the Exhibition. The total cost of United Kingdom participation to date is approximately £80,000.

Mr. Day

Can the right hon. and gallant Member say what use will be made of the pavilion when it closes?

Captain Wallace

Not without notice.
