HC Deb 22 November 1937 vol 329 c840
32. Mr. De la Bère

asked the Minister of Agriculture, whether he will now consider taking steps to safeguard the farmers and agriculturists against a further rise in the price of feeding-stuffs for cattle and pigs?

Mr. W. S. Morrison

Variations in the level of feeding-stuffs prices are in general due to world causes over which the Government have no control.

Mr. De la Bère

Will the Government take steps to grow a variety of potatoes in this country that will do for homegrown feeding-stuffs, and not be guided too much by the Potato Marketing Board?

Mr. Morrison

This country is practically self-supporting in potatoes. I am afraid that I do not quite understand what my hon. Friend's suggestion is in concrete form. Perhaps he will put it on the Order Paper.

Mr. George Griffiths

Will the Government see to it that there are provided real feeding-stuffs for women and children before we provide feeding-stuffs for pigs?
