HC Deb 22 November 1937 vol 329 cc859-60
76. Mr. Wakefield

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Board of Education whether he is aware that parents of Highworth, Wiltshire, are withholding their children from attendance at the new senior school situated at Stratton, several miles away, as a result of the Wiltshire County Council's decision to transfer Highworth pupils to that school; and whether he has been in consultation with the education authority with a view to ending this dispute?

The Parliamentary Secretary to the Board of Education (Mr. Kenneth Lindsay)

The Board are aware that children from Highworth are being withheld from attendance at the senior school at Stratton. This is primarily a matter for the local education authority, and, as I explained in the answer given on 18th November, my Noble Friend sees no ground for intervening.
