HC Deb 17 November 1937 vol 329 cc391-2
54. Mr. Turton

asked the Minister of Transport in how many villages in the North Riding of Yorkshire there is a speed limit in operation?

Captain Hudson

I regret that the information asked for is not available.

Mr. Turton

Is my hon. and gallant Friend aware that the absence of a speed limit in many of the villages in the North Riding of Yorkshire is causing great danger to inhabitants, and especially to children?

Captain Hudson

The question of the imposition of a speed limit has, in the first instance, to be decided by the local authority and not by the Minister. I do not think that we have refused a large number in my hon. Friend's area.
