HC Deb 15 November 1937 vol 329 c31
56. Sir Nicholas Grattan-Doyle

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Board of Education what precautions are taken by local education authorities against risk of chills by children after engaging in physical training; and whether special dress is required and facilities provided for washing and rubbing down?

The Parliamentary Secretary to the Board of Education (Mr. Kenneth Lindsay)

In their Circular 1450, of which I am sending my hon. Friend a copy, the Board of Education have specially called the attention of local education authorities to safeguards against the risk of chills after physical training by the use of showers and rub-downs and by the provision of special dress wherever possible. The Board have also emphasised the importance of changing rooms, shower baths, and washing facilities in their Memorandum on the Planning of Gymnasia and in their Educational Pamphlet on Elementary School Buildings, copies of which I am sending to my hon. Friend.
