HC Deb 15 November 1937 vol 329 c1
1. Dr. Haden Guest

asked the Under-Secretary of State for India, with regard to the report of the Commander-in-Chief in India on the Waziristan operations, whether any new policy has been adopted in the use of the Air Force on the North-West Frontier, particularly in connection with the bombing of villages?

The Under-Secretary of State for India (Lord Stanley)

No, Sir. The various types of air action which have been employed in Waziristan were described in Command Paper No. 5495, presented to Parliament last June.

Dr. Guest

In view of the fact that out of 1,260 hours 35 minutes' flying, only 66 hours 20 minutes were employed in bombing, do the Government consider that carrying on bombing on the North-West Frontier is justified by the expense?

Lord Stanley

I think the White Paper proves conclusively that it is justified.
