asked the Secretary for Mines the amount of coal mined by machinery in Great Britain for the years 1930, 1933, and 1936, respectively, giving separate figures for Lancashire?

As the reply contains a number of figures, I will, with the hon. Member's permission, circulate it in the OFFICIAL REPORT.

The information is as follows:

The total quantity of coal cut by machines at mines in Great Britain in the year 1930 was 75,755,595 tons; in 1933, 87,826,106 tons and in 1936, 125,570,354 tons. The corresponding figures for Lancashire were 3,826,729 tons, 5,222,977 tons and 8,447,861 tons, respectively.
