asked the Minister of Labour the number of workers registered as employed in the heavy chemical trade in September, 1936, and September, 1937?

The estimated number of insured persons, aged 14–64, in the chemical industry in Great Britain at July, 1936, was 231,860: the corresponding figure for July, 1937, is not yet available. The numbers of such persons recorded as unemployed at 21st September, 1936, and at 13th September, 1937, were 16,491 and 13,424 respectively. Separate figures for the heavy chemicals industry are not available.
