asked the President of the Board of Trade the number of marine engines, other than outboard, which were imported into this country in the years 1935' 1936, and 1937; and what proportion of these imports was imported direct into registered shipyards?

As the answer involves a tabular statement, I will, with by hon. Friend's permission, circulate it in the OFFICIAL REPORT.

Would the Minister consider asking the Import Duties Advisory Committee to report to him as to the advisability of still retaining the exemption duty for registered shipyards?

That subject seems rather remote from the Question on the Paper. Perhaps my hon. Friend will put a question down.

Mr. Stanley

I am aware that the German Government have adopted a number of methods to assist German export trade; but detailed information is not available in regard to the application of these methods either to exports generally or to the export of marine engines in particular. As regards the second part of the question, only a small part of these imports is consigned from Germany, amounting in 1936 to £49.000.
