HC Deb 02 November 1937 vol 328 c691
1. Mr. Lambert

asked the Secretary of State for Dominion Affairs whether he can make any statement at to immigration into this country from the Irish Free State.

The Under-Secretary of State for Dominion Affairs (Marquess of Hartington)

This question has been carefully examined by an inter-departmental committee and the general conclusion reached is that while there is clear evidence of an increasing immigration from the Irish Free State into Great Britain, the immigrants are being absorbed into employment and are not tending to increase disproportionately the unemployment figures.

Mr. Lambert

Can we have the report of the inter-departmental committee on this subject?

Marquess of Hartington

I must have notice of that question.

Sir William Davison

Has the report of the inter-departmental committee, which has been sitting on this subject for some eight or nine months, been published? The report has been promised us for a long time.

Marquess of Hartington

The report is completed.

Sir W. Davison

Will it be published?

Marquess of Hartington

I must have notice of that question.
